The Norix 1  Emergency Contraceptive Pill is a hormonal contraceptive containing Levonorgestrel, a type of progestin (a synthetic form of progesterone). It is primarily used for emergency contraception to help prevent unintended pregnancies. Additionally, it is sometimes used in hormonal contraception through intrauterine devices (IUDs).

• Prevents or delays the release of an egg from the ovary.
• Inhibits fertilization by preventing sperm from meeting the egg.
• Alters the uterine lining to reduce the chances of implantation.
• It does not affect an existing pregnancy and does not cause abortion.

• Should be taken as soon as possible, ideally within 12 hours and no later than 72 hours (3 days) after unprotected intercourse or contraceptive failure.
• The sooner it is taken, the more effective it is.

• Not for use during pregnancy – Norix 1 does not terminate an existing pregnancy.
• Breastfeeding mothers should consult a doctor before use, as the medication may pass into breast milk.
• Avoid use if you have a history of:
  • Heart disease, high blood pressure, or high cholesterol
  • Blood clotting disorders
  • Liver or kidney disease
  • Anaemia (low hemoglobin)
  • Salpingitis (inflammation of the fallopian tubes)
  • Malnourishment
• May cause drowsiness, so avoid driving or operating heavy machinery after taking it.
• Avoid interactions with St. John’s Wort, an herbal remedy for mild depression, as it may reduce the pill’s effectiveness.
